Winter Clothing Drive
November 1 – December 31, 2011
Donations of winter clothing are being requested to provide the SWJP participants of the Sheriff’s Female Furlough Program (SFFP) and other women re-entering the community. The requested clothing needed are:
Coats
Hats
Gloves
Boots
All sizes are welcome and all participation is voluntary.
The women report daily and there is always a need for adequate clothing.

TWIN SIZE BLANKET COLLECTION DRIVE
December 1 – January 31, 2012
On an average night, over 500 homeless men, women, and children receive shelter at Pacific Garden Mission. During the cold winter months, that number climbs well above 800.
In our continued efforts to assist those in need throughout Cook County, I am inviting all employees to participate in a twin-size blanket collection drive, benefit-ting the Pacific Garden Mission.
Details as follows.
All new or gently used, clean twin-size blankets will be accepted. Convenient drop-off boxes will be available in each facility as well as on-site.

AMERICAN RED CROSS COOK COUNTY BLOOD DRIVE

Every two seconds someone in America needs a blood transfusion. Many traumatic injuries require a quick influx of blood to save lives. Your donation is needed.

NEW YEAR’S DAY
Looking for a sparkling uncommon way to bring in the new year? We are coordinating employees and friends/family members who would like volunteer at Chicago’s Pacific Garden Mission on Saturday, January 1, 2012 passing out meals to the homeless and working poor that utilize their services. The mission is located at 1458 S. Canal Street and the volunteer hours are 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m*
THE GLASS SLIPPER PROJECT (JANUARY 1 – FEBRUARY 28, 2012)
The Sheriff’s Office will once again share a program with its employees that will benefit high school students, and their parents, within our community.
The organization is the Glass Slipper Project.
As stated on their website:
“The Glass Slipper Project collects gently-worn formal dresses, bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses, as well as shoes and other related accessories. With assistance from the Chicago Public Schools and other organizations, they give young women the opportunity to select a prom dress, free of charge, and attend their proms feeling confident, stylish and included. To date, the Glass Slipper Project has succeeded in providing more than 6,000 students with free prom attire.”
The final date to bring in your donated items is Wednesday February 29, 2012.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a Personal Shopper for the girls who will be selecting their entire prom outfits from the donations received by the Glass Slipper Project, you can register via glasslipperproject.org. There are shifts available during the Boutique Days and as information becomes available, it will be shared pertaining to the selected location, dates and times to volunteer.*
SPECIAL OLYMPICS CHICAGO – 12TH ANNUAL POLAR PLUNGE
Employees and their family and friends are invited to join Sheriff Tom Dart in participating in
the 12th Annual Chicago Polar Plunge on Sunday, March 4th, 2011. The event benefits Special Olympics Chicago, and helps subsidize year-round sports training and a variety of competitions
for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This event includes the Polar Plunge and a
great after-party with food, drinks, and entertainment from 11:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.
Our office will once again contend with the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Fire Department to see who has the biggest team. Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of
$125.00 in pledges. However, any amount is appreciated immensely.
Although some may opt to dive in completely, even a foot into the chilly water qualifies as taking
the Plunge! Details are as follows:

- Our team will meet at a designated location on North Avenue Beach prior to the
Polar Plunge so that we take the Plunge together.
- Although warming facilities will be available, you are highly encouraged to bring a second set of clothes.
