Tuesday, June 9, 2015
—Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today that a man who went AWOL from the Sheriff’s Electronic Monitoring program is in custody.
Terry Mikkelson, 24, was taken into custody at approximately 10 a.m. today at motel in the 6100 block of North Jersey Avenue in Chicago after members of the Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit received information that he was in that area.
Mikkelson is currently being held at Cook County Jail. He has been charged with escape. He also has a warrant for failing to appear for his June 3 court date.
Mikkelson was ordered on electronic monitoring on May 28 for a burglary charge. Mikkelson, however, did not have a place to stay, a requirement for the program. He was placed in alternative housing to satisfy that requirement. Mikkelson left that Chicago location on May 29 and did not return.
Sheriff’s investigators had been trying to locate him since.
Chicago Police have been contacted about Mikkelson’s apprehension in regards to an ongoing investigation in their jurisdiction.
Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
