ARREST WARRANT ISSUED FOR FATHER OF CHILD FOUND IN FOREST PRESERVE
Thursday, April 9, 2015
—An arrest warrant has been issued for the father of the child found Tuesday evening near a Forest Preserve area in Prospect Heights, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
A $300,000 arrest warrant for aggravated kidnapping, a class X felony, was issued for Faiz Ikramulla, 35. He is currently being held at the Van Buren County Jail in Michigan.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday a 3-year-old girl named Aliya was found by a passerby near Milwaukee Avenue and Palatine Road. She was crying and waving her hands. The child was able to provide investigators with her first name, but could not provide any additional information about her family.
She was positively identified late Tuesday. Sheriff’s Police detectives learned the child’s mother was in the process of filing a missing person’s report for her daughter and her husband on Tuesday night when they contacted Round Lake Police following up on tips to identify the girl.
The Sheriff's Police detectives’ investigation revealed that the child was left by the father in the Forest Preserve where he believed she would not immediately be found.
On Wednesday, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office notified Cook County Sheriff’s Police that Ikramulla was located in their jurisdiction, and that they had learned that authorities in Illinois were looking for him.
Ikramulla’s return to Cook County is pending an extradition hearing.
Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
