Friday, December 19, 2014
—A joint investigation by the Cook County Sheriff’s Vice Unit and the Berwyn Police Department has led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man for promoting prostitution, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today.
Abraham Banda, of Lyons, received a $25,000 bond during a hearing today at the Maywood Courthouse. He has been charged with two counts of promoting prostitution, a class 4 felony.
During the investigation, which began this month, officers learned that Banda was arranging prostitution for financial gain in the Western suburbs. It was also learned that the prostitution operation was advertising through Backpage.com.
Banda was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 17, in North Riverside, while on his way to pick up proceeds from the prostitution operation.
Banda’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2015 at the Maywood Courthouse.
Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
